This is my first attempt using a technique where you mix nine patch squares with blocks of coordinating fabrics to make a relatively impromptu design. I learned some important lessons:
(1) When the borders look wonky, don’t just keep going….until you fix it.
(2) When you don’t follow rule 1 – you can block the quilt by putting it in a tub of cold water and then laying it out on towels or sheets and coaxing the quilt edges into straight lines and square corners. Takes about 2 full days for it to dry, but it is worth the effort to get a much better result.
(3) Don’t try to do a detailed quilting pattern on printed fabric. So hard to see what you are doing and pretty much of a waste of effort.
